WATER CHANNEL CLEANING FOR DIE-CASTING MOLDS & DIES

A practical procedure for die-casting cooling-channel cleaning, reverse flushing, flow verification, pressure checks, drying, and maintenance records.

WATER CHANNEL CLEANING UNIT

CLEAN DIE-CASTING COOLING CHANNELS WITHOUT ROUTINE DISASSEMBLY

Die casting cooling channel cleaning can be performed with the die installed when the casting cell is stopped, cooled, isolated, depressurized, and prepared for maintenance. Identify each circuit, record baseline flow and pressure, connect the cleaning system, and select operating limits that respect the die material, plugs, seals, hoses, and fittings.

The MDM water channel cleaning unit uses controlled air-and-water pulses and forward/reverse flow to disturb deposits in compatible die cooling passages. After cleaning, rinse, perform the approved pressure and leak checks, blow dry, and document the result before production resumes.

RESTORE FLOW IN DIE-CASTING WATER PASSAGES

Scale, rust, mineral buildup, oxide, sludge, and debris can reduce effective passage area and increase pressure loss. Compare flow circuit by circuit rather than relying on a single manifold reading. If the passage remains restricted after a controlled cycle, investigate collapsed hoses, incorrect valve positions, damaged fittings, severe corrosion, or a blockage that requires a different repair method.

VERIFY PRESSURE, FLOW AND LEAK CONDITION

Use comparable test conditions before and after cleaning. Record flow rate, pressure behavior, cleaning time, discharge condition, leak-test result, drying, and release approval. For broader die-casting program design, see die casting mold cooling maintenance; for scale and rust specifically, see the descaling application.

Expert Advice

Keep the die installed only when the procedure allows it

In-place cleaning reduces handling, but it does not mean cleaning during production. Stop, cool, isolate, and verify the cell before connecting maintenance equipment, and use approved limits for the die and circuit.
