PRESS APPLICATIONS
Find the process guide, define the production requirements and compare the equipment families for your part.
Start with the Process and the Part
Start with the operation, material and part geometry. Use the process guides below for tooling, force, motion and handling questions, or use the industry and material guides to identify requirements for your end use.
When you are ready to compare equipment, visit the industrial press-selection gateway for hydraulic, mechanical, servo-hydraulic and servo-mechanical families. If the process is still being defined, send your part and production requirements for an application review.
Presses by Process
Choose the operation to review tooling, material, force and production requirements.

Compress the workpiece in a die to produce local detail, thickness or surface features. Review force, tool support and the material condition.

Draw a sheet-metal blank into a hollow part. Review draw depth, blank holding, tooling, lubrication and the required force and motion profile.
Cut holes or internal features with a punch and die. Review the cut perimeter, thickness, clearance, stripping load and press energy.

Separate flash, gates and runners from castings or remove excess material from formed and molded parts. Review the MPTP hydraulic trim press for die-casting trimming cells.
Shape a solid metal workpiece by compression. Define material, temperature, deformation, tooling and force/energy requirements.
Plan sheet-metal cutting and forming operations around the die sequence, strip/blank feed, working stroke and production rate.

Cut the outside profile of a blank that becomes the workpiece. Compare blanking with punching, where the removed slug is usually scrap.

Shape sheet-metal components with application-specific dies. Review part geometry, tooling envelope and the force/motion cycle.

Form angles, flanges or profiles with suitable tooling. Define material, bend length, thickness, support and dimensional criteria.

Correct a bent or distorted component with controlled loading. Define support points, load locations and the inspection method.

Create raised or recessed surface features with matched tooling. Review feature depth, material, tool alignment and required force.
Apply the required pressure and motion to a mold. Define material, tool temperature, dwell, venting and demolding requirements.
Review press-based forming or molding of plastic components around the material, tool, thermal cycle and part-removal method.

Compare axial pressing, tooling motion and ejection methods, then review the MPC-SV powder compaction press for equipment specifications.

Prepare an Application Enquiry
Share the part drawing, material and condition, thickness or blank size, required operation, force/motion estimate and target output. Include die dimensions and weight, shut height, stroke/daylight, loading method, utilities and the inspection or acceptance criteria.
For an integrated cell, add the feeding, transfer, ejection, scrap-handling, safeguarding and control-interface requirements. Contact MetalPress with your application requirements and identify the product family if you have already selected one.
Press Application Questions
Should I start with a process guide or a product page?
Use the process guide to define the operation and tooling requirements. Use the linked product page to review machine models, published ratings and configuration details. Bring both sets of information into the equipment enquiry.
Does an industry label confirm equipment certification?
An industry guide describes application context. Specify the actual customer approvals, validation, documentation and regulatory requirements so they can be reviewed for the proposed equipment and project.
How should hydraulic and servo press options be compared?
Define the required force and motion cycle first. Compare the relevant product families by working-position force, stroke/opening, speed profile, energy, tooling access, control sequence and production output. Servo-hydraulic and servo-mechanical presses use different drive architectures.
Can one press support several operations?
A machine can be evaluated for several programs when the force, energy, tooling envelope, loading and controls suit each operation. Review the tooling and acceptance criteria for every proposed program rather than assuming one rating covers all applications.
