From Production to Installation: An MGS-08-4000 Guillotine Shear for an Ohio Automotive Manufacturer

An MGS-08-4000 Guillotine Shear for an Ohio Automotive Manufacturer

For an automotive manufacturer in Ohio, a new metal-cutting machine was one part of a larger fabrication workflow. Straight-cut blanks needed to move onward to forming, fabrication or assembly, making the preparation stage an important place to begin the equipment review.

The project centered on a MetalPress MGS-08-4000 hydraulic guillotine shear. Application review, machine production, pre-shipment preparation, shipment and installation are now complete. This showcase follows that journey without identifying the customer or disclosing its proprietary components.

Beginning with the Cutting Requirement

The starting point was the work, rather than a model number alone. In automotive metal fabrication, a straight-cut blank becomes the reference for later operations. Its dimensions, edge condition and handling requirements need to fit what happens next.

Selecting an industrial guillotine shear therefore involves more than matching sheet thickness to a catalogue figure. Material grade and strength, cutting length, blank dimensions and the intended production sequence all affect the application review. The machine must be assessed against the actual material and cutting conditions.

The selected MGS-08-4000 guillotine shear has a published nominal cutting thickness of 8 mm and a cutting width of 4,000 mm—listed as 5/16 inch and approximately 13.1 feet in the product table. The nominal thickness is not a blanket capacity for every alloy or material strength; suitability must be checked for the intended stock.

A Four-Metre Shear within the Fabrication Workflow

A hydraulic guillotine shear performs straight-line cutting. Its place in a fabrication line is different from that of a press brake, which forms bends, or an ironworker, which combines suitable punching, bar cutting and notching operations.

For this Ohio order, the MGS-08-4000 provided the selected machine platform for that straight-cutting role. A four-metre cutting width defines the available cutting envelope, but the size of an individual blank, its material and the way it is supported remain important parts of the job review.

For the wider process, see sheet and plate blank preparation. Where blanks proceed to bending, the Titan CNC press brake serves a separate forming operation rather than replacing the shear.

Production and Pre-Shipment Preparation

Once the project moved into production, the ordered configuration became a physical machine. This stage connected the application discussions with the equipment being prepared for the customer’s facility.

Production and pre-shipment preparation are complete. The photographs to accompany this section will document the machine during the build and before dispatch. They will provide the project-specific visual record alongside this account, rather than relying on a catalogue image to represent the installation.

For any guillotine shear project, the pre-shipment handover should connect the supplied configuration, machine identification and operating information. Cutting acceptance criteria should be tied to an agreed material and sample, rather than an unsupported claim of universal accuracy.

Shipment to Ohio and Installation

The next stage took the MGS-08-4000 from the production facility to the automotive manufacturer in Ohio. Shipment and installation have both been completed, bringing the equipment project through to its final location.

For a machine of this type, installation planning extends beyond its footprint. Receiving access, positioning, site requirements and space for handling incoming sheets and outgoing blanks all deserve attention. A cutting station needs to fit the movement of material around it, not simply the available floor area.

The installation photographs will complete this part of the story by showing the delivered machine at the customer’s facility. No customer production rates, dimensional results or financial outcomes are claimed here.

One Order, from Application Review to Shop Floor

The completed Ohio project brought the main stages together: selection, production, pre-shipment preparation, shipment and installation. The MGS-08-4000 was the machine at the centre of that process; the application requirements gave the project its direction.

For manufacturers considering a similar hydraulic sheet metal shear, a useful first discussion starts with material grade, thickness, maximum cutting length and representative blank dimensions. These inputs help establish whether the machine and the proposed workflow are suitable.
