CONFORMAL COOLING PASSAGE CLEANING & DESCALING
Maintenance guidance for long, narrow, curved, and additively manufactured cooling passages that are difficult to restore with basic flushing.

MAINTAIN COMPLEX CONFORMAL COOLING PATHS
Conformal cooling channels follow the tool geometry to improve heat removal, but their narrow diameters, curves, surface condition, and branch paths can make restrictions difficult to diagnose and clean. Conformal cooling passage cleaning targets scale, rust, powder residue, mineral deposits, sludge, and other contamination that reduce flow or create unequal cooling.
Review the MDM multi-circuit mold channel cleaner for controlled pulsed cleaning, bidirectional flow, monitoring, leak checks, and drying. Confirm that the tooling material, printed surface, plugs, seals, and allowable pressure are compatible before cleaning.

USE BIDIRECTIONAL FLOW AND CIRCUIT-BY-CIRCUIT VERIFICATION
Forward and reverse flow can approach deposits from both directions and help move loosened material through complex passages. Establish baseline flow for each circuit, clean within approved limits, inspect the discharged contamination, rinse, dry, and repeat the test. Severe blockage may require imaging, mechanical repair, or tool-builder guidance rather than progressively higher pressure.
SPECIFY A CONFORMAL COOLING CLEANING PROCEDURE
Provide the CAD or circuit map when available, passage diameter and length, build material, connection size, number of branches, baseline flow and pressure, deposit history, allowable pressure, leak-test requirements, and acceptance criteria. Coordinate the procedure with advanced-tooling flow and leak verification and the mold cooling guide.
Expert Advice
Protect the passage while restoring performance
Conformal channels are not ordinary straight drilled holes. Set conservative limits from the tool design, use measured before-and-after results, and escalate a persistent blockage instead of assuming more pressure is always better.
